Rob McEwen has enjoyed an illustrious business career transforming Goldcorp from a failing gold mining company to an astonishing $10B market cap. But what is most remarkable is how he did it. Inspired by the concept of open source software, he published confidential proprietary corporate information on the Web and offered a prize to anyone who could identify Goldcorp’s mineral resources. In one of the most powerful examples of open collaboration, solutions poured in from around the world from a diversity of disciplines. The prize was awarded, Goldcorp struck it rich, the rest is history.
Innovative leadership doesn’t stop at the corporate office for Rob. He is making his mark as a philanthropist now, most notably by establishing the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine, confirming Canada’s leadership in stem cell research.
McEwen’s remarkable accomplishments have been recognized with many awards, including the Order of Canada.
